IRC Channel?

Well, it's not a bad idea but I don't think the community is big enough to support it yet. Maybe when we're bigger then it'll be something we can look forward to doing.

Wow. 40 or 50? But I'd say there's only 10-20 who are active.

Off the top of my head: Myself, Daft27, DavidY, Nekronos, SpacePirate, Darkdog, MaskmanJoe, Onimike, Fizyboy...

I know I missed a few, but it's still nowhere near 40 or 50.

erm.. i meant the site lol, i can see for myself for the forum X_X
ha.. i remember with the old forums, i was the like the second registered or something.

If anyone's particularily interested, I think it might be a good time to revive this suggestion.

hmm... Some other areas relating to anime, especially fansub groups, use IRC as a main way to get info about series. Plus, the IRC is more active than a forum is. What's your ideas or goals we might accomplish by using an IRC channel?

Um..well there has to be a point in going to the chatroom otherwise no one will go. Hanging around doesnt really do anything

Would IRC make file distribution easier? Cause if it did, it might help the cost of the servers.

Yeah, it might be a bit too much actually. Most Fansub groups can distibute easier on IRC because they have less anime to deal with. This site however with the huge library of unlicensed anime, would be a nightmare to regulate and maintain. Especially with all the bots they would have to have. So yeah....bad idea.

I would definitly say no bots.. (since this is going to use the same bandwidth.....and some people may have difficulty configuring their clients to receive --> some people use this site because of this problem) unless you could ask each fansub group to idle their bot in this channel as well as theirs.. and thats really not a bad proposition as i've seen a certain few bots like the old anbu-aone bot i believe it was, a massive bot and idled in about 20 of the main fansub group's channels

but nothing wrong with regular ol fserv's, xdcc and tdcc options. each person can contribute their own personal share in this manner

also another option to irc is dc++, a similiar client and is more user friendly/easier to use and share files. either way im good for it, as i was over a year ago it seems

Well, an IRC channel is a perfect way of attracting more HTTP users as well, as long as you register the chan correctly. I have found this iut myself, when i started up my project.

As for the bot idling idea, its not that diffucult, build a peerbase and thail donate or RUN bots for you. I personally know James1197 the bot provider for about 4-5 groups Lime-Anime being the prominent one and i really dotn think he would mind idling a bot in there especially as he provides a bot for me, and he idles all his bots in his chan. Its a good idea, and opens up the chat interface for a common community. I would go for it, its free, and popular. And its too diffuclt to set up and use for immature people.

An all round win win. And Daft, you may want to talk to some people i know who have much experience managing a well run irc channel that runs around 600 people on average. PM me for the details as i dotn want to spam IRC channel info into a fourum.

Edit: Well i was thinking, Your options are limitless! you coudl do stuff like have a passworded and hidden chan for "robust" donaters with a iroffer that has, say, a dreamy amount of qeueu slots and insane bandwidth. the only thing i can think of is that that may piss of the fan sub groups as they may see it as stolen revenue.

you seem to be missing he purpose of the whole dd of this site vs irc /bt...
and irc isn't difficult, bots would be difficult... way too many releases and as mentioned above... this was made partly for those who arn't able to use irc/bt thus throwing out the idea of having a bunch of super bots.

a donor channel would be pointless, this can be achieved on the site and fansub groups shouldn't be seeing such a thing as stolen revenue... any who does shouldn't be fansubbing, period.

I am having diffuculties seeing how the demerits outweigh the advantages. I hate having to idle in about 40 chans across 3 servers. Rizon and ImmortalAnime being the two biggest. Fansub groups would not have a problem idling a bot in the fansub.tv channel, as it would give them acess to an unparreleled amount of potential donors. Additionaly IRC labeling tequniques will draw IRC users to the HTTP side.

As for why am i pushing it so hard? Being deployed overseas gives sildiers such as myself limited options fro internet. Right now i am usinf a VSAT Terminal shared between 25 other people, and the service is based out of the UK with the uplink in Italy. This causes HTTP downloads to time out and fail due to the massive distances, latency, and general crappy routing. You can script IRC to re-queue the file you were downloading after it times out. As well as those benafits it is not diffucult to set up an IRC channel, and it is free. A massive bot is unessasary, Fansub groups can just idle their new release bot, whereas you would have to join their chan for the archive bot. The advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

However, other than that, an IRC channel i do not se as being nessasary for fansub.tv to continue to serve its purpose, and is an answer in search of a problem.

As for a donor channel, it is indeed very far from pointless. Take for example any of the big DVD ripping groups. People donate to gain acess to larger queues, faster speeds, and other benifits. Doing that on the HTTP side would be diffucult, and unsecure, and would be akin to those pay to enter pornography sites.

Fansubing may not be easy, but distubuting you hard work is both diffucult and expensive. Not to mention that many fansub groups are composed of colledge students, and that is not the richest demographic, i can assure you of that. This is why revenue becomes so inportant, to make it easier for the consumer to, well, consume.

how is it so hard to see? , do you not see irc users are not wanted to use these http servers , which will hog more bandwidth and these https are slow enough as it is, as the fanbase for fansub.tv has grow enormously since it first began. theres no reason to create a chan to idle bots from all chans, and for your 40 chans and idling? thats your problem.... i dont have that problem so i dont really know what your doing or why you need to be in 40channels as it wasn't really meant for that.

and it really wouldn't give them potential donors.... and as i said that shouldn't be a reason to do it in any case, any potential donors would be the http users of this site? why would they donate to bots that they cant use? pointless

your poor comparison to porn sites/http donors and irc fansub groups donor benefits is just sad.... again there isn't any goal to do implement such a thing, it could possibly be a further incentive to donate but its unecessary and the easiest would be a seperate server for it....

so you seem to be missing the point of both fansubs and this site which is to provide anime subbed by fans for the fans at on cost which i pointed out before. its not expensive to distribute, and not all are college students.. many are HS students with some being adults. revenue isn't that important, and college students my not be rich... but not many are rich anyways THUS the irc channels boom since its free, are bots necessary no? some students are able to utilize the edu lines for distribution.

bottom line... your just missing the point...
